Morro Rock, Morro Bay, California

OK, so this may be a bit different, an entire update about one rock. In reality, the town of Morro Bay is a very pretty place, but you could not tell that from most of these pictures. What dominates the whole town is Morro Rock. I spent a number of trips traveling to nearby Cayucos and not having the right weather to take pictures of the rock just 4 miles away. These pictures were taken over several trips and show what a beautiful place it can be.

The rock is huge and seems to just stick straight up out of the sea

There is a breakwater to shelter the harbor

The signs warn that it is extremely dangerous on the breakwater but there was a lot of people (including me) out there

There are tide pools that form and people come here to look at the small sea life

There are a lot of little places for boats to tie up. Seems every place had one

This is actually very close to the above photo. I just climbed down the cliff a little to avoid the view of the parking lot

Driving further away you get to see the rock from many places around town

I really like this just because of the yellow fishing boat. You can see my tripod in the shot (did not try removing it)

A few minutes away is a golf course and near there is a great view through the trees

You can see that it was just before sunset the rock almost disappearing in the trees

There are a lot of great shots among the trees

There is a small museum with a fabulous view of the bay

I ran out of disk space and had to stop (the shame)

There were not a lot of people here, the first time I walked up from the forest area (several shots above) and when I got to the top I found a parking lot!

The next time, I just drove up. You can see the roof of the museum in the center

Driving back I decided to stop in town and walked out on the boat dock. This was one of my shots that did not win from the contest I entered in August
