The Directory option lacks the look of the Graphical option (and can be more difficult to find things like the “My Documents” or “Desktop”. This option will however recall the choice made and allow you to return to a specific directory.  Since the previous choice was remembered this can be very helpful when process numerous images in directories that are close to each other.
